Recommendations for Lorcaserin use
Lorcaserin causes initial, middle or terminal insomnia in some patients. Moreover, sleep quality may worsen when using Lorcaserin. Results of clinical trials have showed that insomnia occurs in about 10% of obese patients taking Lorcaserin 10mg pills.
If sleep problems occurs after the start of obesity drug therapy, Lorcaserin pills should be taken at least 6 hours before bedtime. In severe insomnia, Lorcaserin pills should be taken just once daily, in the morning, regardless of food intake.
Liver and kidney diseases
Lorcaserin pills should not be taken by patients with severe kidney disease.
Patients with moderate kidney disease may require the adjustment of Lorcaserin dose. Patients with mild kidney disease do not need to change the dosing regimen of Lorcaserin.
Patients with severe liver disease may require the adjustment of Lorcaserin daily dose. Patients with mild to moderate liver disease may use the usual doses of Lorcaserin (up to 20mg a day).
Risk of abuse
High single doses of Lorcaserin (up to 60 mg) can cause euphoria, which can last more than 9 hours. Besides euphoria, Lorcaserin can cause hallucinations.
When using more than two Lorcaserin 10mg pills per day, nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, headache, gastrointestinal discomfort, euphoria, mood swings may occur. If symptoms of overdose are severe, a symptomatic treatment may be required.
